To the place, where I belong,
West Virginia, mountain mama,
Take me home, country roads.
John Denver, "Country Roads"
I've been without the internet for the past few days, thanks in no small part to my hotel in Grindelwald, so this is going to be a fairly short post to get you up to speed on a lot of time. I left Memphis on Thursday, taking a quick flight to Atlanta to meet up with David (former roomie, current coworker) before our flight to Paris. This was the first time either of us had flown business class on a long-haul flight and boy, were we in for a surprise.

After several hours of rest-filled, belly-stuffed flying we finally landed in Geneva. Once there, we hopped on a train to Grindelwald, a small skiing town in the Bernese alps. It really is amazing just how much an efficient public rail system can change your experience of a country. And the Alps, I have no words to describe. You'll just have to look at the photos.

I really wish I was up for writing more, but the combination of skiing and adjusting to this new time zone has left me pretty tired. I hope to update this on a more regular basis, assuming that web access is easier to find than it was this past weekend. In closing, I'll leave you with the following items of amusement.
Things that are probably only funny because I'm an American.
1. The German word for morning person is "morgenmuffel."
2. The shower in my hotel was made by Duscholux.
3. At dinner on Saturday, the Spanish family of four sitting caddy-corner to me spontaneously burst out into an a capella version of "Country Roads." I'm pretty sure they caught me staring.
